Sacraments

The school works closely with the Parish and supports the Sacramental Program, particularly through focused Religious Education units.

My name is Susanne Bragge and I am the Sacramental Coordinator for the Catholic Parish of Frenchs Forest. I enjoy working as both Parent Engagement Coordinator for the school and Sacramental Coordinator for the parish. I am very happy to assist families with the sacramental journey of their children.

The journey of initiation into the Catholic Church begins with the Sacrament of Baptism. Baptism can occur at any stage of a person’s life.

The Sacramental Program at the Catholic Parish of Frenchs Forest is run as a Family/Parish based program. Families work with me to prepare for the Sacraments by attending preparation lessons and working through simple workbooks together at home.

The Parish Based, Family Centred Sacramental Process 

• creates particular opportunities for parents to continue sharing the faith with their child. Faith, example, motivation and prayer are primary gifts which are nurtured in this Sacramental Program.
• provides opportunities for parents and children to come together to inquire and reflect upon the faith.

Parents of children who have been baptised and have reached the age of 8 (Year 3) or above are invited to present their child as a candidate for Confirmation, Reconciliation and First Eucharist.

Current practice is for the children to receive the sacraments in the following sequence:

Year 3 – Confirmation confirming the baptismal promises and receiving the Holy Spirit to strengthen them

Year 4 – Reconciliation in preparation for receiving Eucharist

Year 4 – Eucharist the child becomes a full member of the Church

Of course, there is no requirement for your child to receive these sacraments in these years and families are encouraged to make the decision based on their child’s readiness.
