St Martin’s was very lucky to have Kate and Jol Temple visiting our school recently. Kate and Jol have written many books including Room on Our Rock, Are You My Bottom and the Captain Jimmy Cook chapter book series. Some of their books incorporate rhyme and all of them are filled with the most amazing pictures, which hook young readers in right from the start.
Kate and Jol talked about and read some of their picture books to our local pre-school children and their parents and grandparents. Later on, Kindy and Stage 1 were kept entertained by Kate and Jol’s funny books. They loved Are You My Bottom and I Got This Hat! They even got to put on some of the weird and wonderful hats! Kate and Jol also talked to our Stage 2 and Stage 3 students about their chapter books and what it’s like being a writer. The students were very inspired and captivated by Kate and Jol’s books and their enthusiasm for writing funny stories.
One of our favourite books of the day was Room on Our Rock. This is on the 2019 Children’s Book Council Notable List! It’s truly terrific to see this little back-to-front book about empathy on this special list. Thank you Kate and Jol!
